Zeresh

Once there was a beautiful queen who had a cousin in despair.. Wait, this story is not about the queen, nor about his cousin.

His cousin like I said is in despair, that is, he was about to be hanged because of a man called Haman. Nope, this isn't about Haman. Okay, this story is about Zeresh, Haman's wife...

So what about Zeresh? She was one of the persons who adviced Haman to hang the queen's cousin. You see, the queen and her cousin, (her cousin has a name by the way :) it's Mordecai) are Jew. And Haman plotted that all Jew must be killed. (Read the whole story in the Book of Esther.)

Zeresh was only present in the story twice. At these two situations that she was mentioned she was giving her husband her advice or opinion. So what's wrong with that? If you read the whole story, (please do so by the way) please take a closer look at Esther 5:14. You'll find here that Zeresh told his husband that he should hang Mordecai in a 50 cubits in height. (about 75 feet, pretty high huh.) Haman was so annoyed by Mordecai because Mordecai refused to bow to him, plus the fact that Mordecai had the king's favor. So Zeresh said something like, "Set up a pole 75 feet high and tell him to hang Mordecai there."

In our lives there are a lot of Zeresh. So now, ask yourself. Am I Zeresh? For me the Zeresh people are good in spreading hate and malice instead of hope and love. A lot of wives are Zeresh. When their husbands are in trouble they tend to persuade their husbands to do what they think is right and justifiable. But in the end, it will lead to their husbands' misfortune. By the way, Haman was the one who was hanged in the very pole he had set up to hang Mordecai. Karma, huh.

Wives are not the only one prone to be like Zeresh, friends too. Instead of spreading love and camaraderie among a group, the Zereshes spread confusion and misunderstanding among friends. This often times result in the destruction of precious relationships. Sad, yes. But this is a reality. Tonight before you sleep, ask yourself again..

Had I caused trouble because of my illicit advice? Am I Zeresh?
