The first dish that I learned how to cook was taught by my sister. She taught me how to cook "Dinengdeng" (a Filipino dish of vegetables and fish sauce).
At 12 she already managed to wash our laundry. While I was tasked to hang the clothes she already knew how to hand wash blankets! I have always looked up to her. I thought that she was strong and wise being able to do the things that she does everyday. Sometimes she would carry our younger sister on her back which made me a bit jealous. But of course I never told anybody till now, ha ha!
We had a lot of fun when were kids, and a lot of quarrels. I remember we fought about who's going to wash the dishes, who's going to clean up the room or tie the "kulambo" (mosquito net). We had a lot of stubbornness together. I got my scar on my left knee one Saturday afternoon when we were biking. She had the deeper wound she had to be taken to the hospital.
During her high school days boys would try to get her attention. That made me really think that oh boy my sister is quite a lady. I have always wanted to be like that, to be a "lady". I can still remember her favorite baby cologne back then.
